Colophon
Web Standards
There were two main standards used throughout this site and those consisted of:
- CSS 2.1
- XHTML 1.0 Transistional
These twp tools allowed me over the course of this past semester become slightly more independent for we were not getting spoon fed. Granted we are given a lot of material to look through to find out what kind style we want to implement. It also gives us the chance to go out and search techniques and what ever else is out there and learn it for ourselves. CSS 2.1 was a tool utillized to apply style and color to a website as well as if one wants to show that one is fluent in what is being evolved next. By implementing a little CSS 3 it shows my that I want to move with the times and that I am staying on top of the new code provided for ou department. The XHTML 1.0 Transitional is the one that is essential to have for if one symbol or special character is in the wrong place we need to be sure it validates for when a site is rendered unuseful we then have to abandon it for a better site. The content of course is the filler in this sandwhich but think of the palet which starts with the XHTML and then is topped off with CSS. All work together to finish the product and hopefully everyone comes out with a product that pleases them and their users. I know by utilizing testing as well I am able to keep up with deadlines and this allows for time for other things.
Usability
Within the website of Allycomp.com we have the purpose of avoiding the fluster and communication of the web. We want our users to be able to get ahold of their information and move on to their daily life requirements. Thus we have implemented KISS method KEEP IT SIMPLE STUPID! as well as the fact that the everyday questions are not constantly appearing within the bubble that hovers above the individual's head using the website. That is the overall key we need not make our users think because based off of Krug's text Don't Make Me Think we need to adhere to such and do not make our users think more than needed.
What is this icon over here?
To avoid our customers becoming lost and frustrated we have implemented graphics that are simple and to the point there is no clustering areas in which a customer becomes lost in and can't find their way. We have our simple logo and a few graphics that merely illustrate what we are trying to get across to other individuals as well as other competing websites. The confusing thing that many people run into when designing a website is that they want their site to have everything and be the best style wise but there is the necessity and then there is the want. The bare necessities are what is essential for a website to function and the wants are the background effects not necessarily needed to be implemented throughout out. Granted a little flair and style does appeal to the human mind but not by much there is a time and a place for everything and we merely just go back to first hearing LESS IS MORE. Some may think that without the flare no one will be attracted to the website where as it is actually the opposite because of the fact that as stated people like things to be simple.
Where is the section about......?
It is necessary to have an easy navigation system one in which you can get to a place without getting lost along the way. As well as not having to back track in order to go forward. Star is a not so favorite way of navigating a website because of the fact that in order to move from page to page one has to return to the previous main page and then precede to the next. I chose hiearchal where there is a navigation, a subnavigation, and a footer so essentially a person can get to almost every page from any page on the website. Within each section of the navigation there is a universal subnavigation that will help one travel from page to page. As well as the fact that the headers are well noticed and act as street signs to guide the individual user through the site.
Why is the page not appearing when I click on the link?
Broken links are the mayhem of the web designing world and can be avoided by simply following the web naming rules as well as watching your spelling. Just remember not capitals, no special characters, no spaces, and short meaningful. This if all applied will ease the ability of creating a flowing and working website. Many when programming utilize long names for pages or sections this can create confusion and mishap when implementing the ideas and or pages. There is a great deal to take into account. By being able to make a working website that others can access without any mishaps or problems it will be successful in the user world.
SEO
From the performance of my website I believe that I have created the possibility for my website to move higher up in rankings on google because of the fact that it is a universal subject with a unique website name. For when creating the host name I wanted to incorporate my name somehow in order to make it more personal. I thought of my nickname of when I grew up and comp or a shorter version of complete. The way ally is spelled it can also be thought of as aly like someone who is going to be right along side you helping you no matter what. We have a complete variety of knowledge that pertains to health and more and more people are realizing that their health matters and that they need to act now if they want to live to see their grand children. Well better late than never I guess. By entering into the nutritional realm of the web I have found an outlet to allow america that they do not need to conform but they need to merely keep themselves in better shape so that we can create a bigger and better America. For this web sit is to inform and aid people in their long search of looking for advice and help and have come to find that just talking to someone does not cut it. In this way they can go out and find their own information. Also from making the website user friendly has a huge effect on who goes to the sight and when. These aid in Allycomp moving up on the scale.
ROI
By implementing all of the previous with some continued extensive upgrading here and there I think Allycomp will make a stand and continue to be a site to rise above the rest because of its unique way of presenting itself. For most nutrition websites are cluttered with all thes advertisements and allow itself to be bombarded with all of what people think is necessary to include within a website. We are pure and simple and still have room to grow and I think as long as the adveritsing stays up there as well as the continued editing of the website it will give the individuals of america in simple words of this what you should do to keep in good health and keep on living longer to see the next sunrise. All the styling and the actual html allow us to apply our own personal style to our website and not only is that efficient and advertising but it also gives employers many ideas to look at to maybe get an idea of what they want. The profit I gain is that others are receiving most necessary and needed knowledge as well as the fact we hope to eventually open our site for other big names to advertise through us and this will bring in a slight profit since we maintain the website and do the research we need to receive compensation. Even though this is an information sight by sharing our space we are able to accomodate. Thus fueling something called chain advertising.
